Getting Ideas
I have been gathering urban design ideas from the experts and hope to emulate them in Albany. I attended the Manhattan to Manukau Auckland Conversations Event on 23 May 2017, where I met Ludo Campbell-Reid, General Manager of Auckland Design Office. I hope he can provide some positive input into Albany’s design.
I also attended Oakland to Auckland event put on by Generation Zero and Bike Auckland, where I met Chris Darby and Greater Auckland transport bloggers.
Working with Council
I have met with Upper Harbour Local Board several times and am working closely with Nicholas Mayne. I also met with Chris Darby, Auckland Councillor and Chairperson of Auckland Planning Committee. I have also talked with other Councillors Richard Hills, Wayne Walker and John Watson and they are all aware of Albany’s planning problems.
Developers
I have talked with David Drew, owner and operator of Westfield NZ & Aus, who agrees and is open to talking about relocating the bus station to the centre of Albany. This would benefit Massey University, Stadium goers, Workers and Mall users.
I’ve also talked with Northridge Developments who are building retail on Corinthian Drive & expanding the Daycare Centre on Oracle Drive. They are supportive of our ideas.
Spencer Ridge Reserve
Auckland Transport has installed bollards where the reserve meets Corinthian Drive. The bollards were being installed up to the unkempt section of land next to the Olympus building. I pointed out to the council it is part of the reserve and this is now being maintained.
Discussions have started regarding planting days next year for the bank facing Don Mckinnon.
